There are many social activist groups in Goa who work out of love for Goa and Goans. They protest, challenge inequality, and expose injustices. I truly salute the genuine social activists who give their valuable time to listen to people, stand with them, and support them anywhere and at any time.
However, in recent months, social media shows that some activists are becoming jealous of each other and cannot accept another activist’s success. Today, we see both genuine and fake activists in Goa. Some are openly supporting political parties, which clearly shows they are influenced or controlled by politicians. But there are also true Niz Goenkar activists who work day and night to support, help, protect, and save Goa and Goans.
A social activist’s job is to bring out the truth, without deals or taking money, and to fight for justice. But nowadays, instead of targeting corrupt government officials or politicians, some activists are targeting each other on social media. Some are attacking and blaming one another just for publicity and to appear like heroes, but the people of Goa already know who is a hero and who is not.
Many also make deals, take large amounts of money, and put on a show to fool the public. Some are seen in hotels or visiting the offices of MLAs and ministers to ask for government jobs for their family members. Once a case is filed, a few activists stop supporting the victim, leaving them to fight on their own, often at risk to their lives. I hope this politics among social activists comes to an end. Instead of fighting with each other, they should unite to protect the environment of Goa and address issues affecting Goans.
