Gen Z taking to the streets across the world is a warning sign for autocratic and failing governments everywhere. From Asia to Europe and the Americas, young people are showing that a shift in power may be closer than many think. The idea of a generational gap is often seen as a Western concept, but the reality is that young people in their 20s, 30s, 40s and even 50s deserve to be taken seriously. The future of any nation lies in their hands. You cannot ignore the ideals of people in their 20s or dismiss their determination.
Many say that keeping unity among young protestors will be difficult. Still, by keeping their heads high and believing they have nothing to lose, they can push for change. One leader alone cannot solve every issue, but they can help create the right environment for transformation. The voice of the youth cannot be dismissed, as it represents the future. It must be heard and engaged with.
Some argue that in large and diverse countries, young people may struggle to unite. Such movements may grow more easily in smaller regions, but history shows that communication tools have always driven change ” pamphlets, posters and radio speeches once played a major role. Revolution has always spoken in the language of its time. Washington used pamphlets. Lenin used leaflets. Gandhi led marches. Today’s generation has the internet.
Digital tools can spread awareness about corruption and mobilise lakhs and crores of people faster than newspapers or street meetings ever could. We praise the “youthful energy” of past revolutionaries but forget that they, too, were mocked in their time. If Gandhi lived in the 21st century, he would have live-streamed the Salt March. If Lenin organised now, he would be rallying through encrypted apps. The spirit of protest does not die ” only the tools change.
Young people today are not asking for permission to express their anger. They are growing up in a world shaped by governments that have led to climate disasters, corruption, inequality and political failures that directly affect their future. Their urgency is the reason they protest and mock authority ” not for fun, but for survival. Gen Z represents the future, and they should not be taken lightly.
