On December 10, one Chauhan was browsing Facebook when he saw an advertisement for D-Mart offering heavy discounts on dry fruits. He clicked the link to place an order and was prompted to enter a one-time password (OTP) for the transaction. Shortly after entering the OTP, he received a message stating that Rs 98,000 had been debited from his HDFC Bank account. Realizing he had been scammed, Chauhan immediately lodged a complaint at the Oshiwara Police Station. The police cyber team acted quickly and managed to freeze the amount, which had been routed through an online payment gateway to a retailer. The entire amount was successfully refunded to his account. The public should be alert of advertisements on social media offering unusually large discounts and should avoid clicking on links from unknown or suspicious sources. The public should never share their bank OTP, personal information, or card details unless they are absolutely sure of the platform's authenticity.
