Have our animal instincts got the better of us today?

As human beings belonging to the animal kingdom, we all have our animal instincts, in addition to our free will and God-given charisma. Unfortunately, and more often than not, it is our animal instincts that get the better of us  and bring us down to the level of beasts. While it is no longer safe for women to move about freely without  the fear of being abducted or raped, our school children are also being increasingly assaulted , molested  kidnapped and even raped by their seniors and teachers -- something unheard of in the past. Tantriks,  godmen, and priests have likewise disgraced their positions , even as the police are struggling to come clean with their involvement in a series of sex scandals and shoddy investigations. The recent murder where a live-in partner was killed and body cut into 35 pieces,  sends shivers down the spine. Have we lost all respect for human life and the sacredness of the human body? Why is the law dragging its feet in punishing the accused and why are people  with criminal records in responsible positions?
