Barely a day after the brutal murder of a 63-year-old man in Morjim, two people were found murdered on Thursday with their throats slit in a rented house at Muddawado, Saligao. Locals must share the blame for the rise in such crimes. Many are seen renting out rooms or small cubicles built behind their houses, often belonging to relatives, to anyone from neighbouring states”without verifying their background, checking identity documents, or informing the police. All this is done just to earn a few quick bucks. Have we forgotten that a sharp-shooter linked to an underworld gang was once arrested from a rented house in Saligao, right across the Chogm Road? The police must act firmly. Locals who rent out rooms without proper tenant verification should face strict action and heavy fines. The tenant verification process must be made tougher to ensure that the law and order situation in every village across Goa remains under control.
