It may be recalled that in December 2021 several consumers across the state had received exorbitant water bills. There was a lot of hue and cry over the issue.
The government had attributed the huge bills to the technical error in their computation and also mistakes committed by PWD and had asked the consumers not to pay the exorbitant bill issued in December till it is rectified.
However it is shocking to note that the bills issued this month reportedly included the interest amount on the arrears of the unpaid previous month's bill.
If these high bills are not paid before the due date, the interest on the arrears will keep on mounting. The concerned authorities need to clarify on the matter at the earliest.
The interest component on the arrears needs to be waived off. New bills need to be issued by the department after the technical errors have been rectified.
