The recent exposure of under-filling of LPG cylinders at a time when prices have skyrocketed is shocking. This is rank cheating.
There are also other malpractices that gas dealers are also engaged in. The consumers are not given computerised receipts but manual ones.
Small families generally buy about 8 to 9 cylinders in a year. But if one does an online check of the computerised account of cylinders, one will often find more than the actual quantity is shown as supplied against one's consumer number. These extra cylinders are then sold in the black market to non-card holders at a high price.
Further, the rate of commercial LPG is Rs 99 per kg while domestic LPG is Rs 75 per kg. Restaurants are supposed to use commercial cylinders which are bigger in size and of different colour, but if one goes to check, you will often find many restaurants using domestic cylinders.
All these malpractices in the filling, supply and consumption of LPG cylinders must be thoroughly checked and stopped.
