Sexism, misogyny on the rise

It was both, infuriating and disheartening to read a recent article on a local daily reporting the following claim "Girls should not be given phones as it leads to rapes".

This utterly gruesome statement was made not just by a person entrusted to ensuring women's rights but by a woman herself. 

It encompasses sexism, internalised misogyny and victim blaming -- all the tools that a society would need to bring down women. 

The lack of headlines pointing out just how inaccurate and injurious this statement is sombre but not surprising. 

We as evolved and civilised human beings need to speak up, learn, correct our wrong ideologies in order for our society to flourish and prosper in the future and not burry a section of our population in the dark pits of taboos, myths and misogyny.
