A real and well-meaning swearing-in of ministers must be conducted in the sacred premises of the assembly. Instead, Goa witnessed a swearing-in ceremony on a grand scale at a public venue on Monday. The expenses involved for this pompous occasion were borne by the exchequer. It is a needless waste of scarce resources that could find more productive avenues. People should boycott such tamashas that only satisfy the egos of politicians and parties. The question here is did BJP deserve to have such a grandiose swearing-in when 67 per cent of the electorate voted against it? The BJP would deserve more respect if they had to avoid this event and straight away got down to administering governance to the people soon after attaining victory. The Chief Minister will now have to prove that he is serious about the job at hand and get down to work to clear the mess the State is in.
