Dr Katherine O’Brien of the WHO says the booster dose is the third dose given to one who has already had 2 doses. There are 3 reasons for the 3rd dose. The first is if you're in a category of people that didn't respond adequately to the first two doses that you received, it may be necessary to receive a third dose because those first two aren't doing what they do in otherwise normal, healthy people.
The second reason why a third dose is needed is if over time the immunity that you received and achieved as a result of being vaccinated starts to wane, it starts to deteriorate or go down over time. And in fact, the evidence right now shows that the vaccines are holding up extremely well to protect you against severe disease, hospitalization or even death.
The third reason a third dose may be needed is if the performance of the vaccines are less or inadequate against some of the variants of concern that have emerged.
The problem is, she says, we must first administer the 2 doses to the whole world before we consider the booster dose.
Knowing this, what action is the Task force taking? Regarding tourists entering Goa -- with many falling in the above 3 categories. That many Goans too may fall in the same categories and will come into contact with Covid transmitters?
