I welcome disqualification of 4 Rumdamol-Davorlim panchas by the Salcete BDO-II for alleged involvement in an illegal construction case and their failure to take appropriate action. I understand the same was enforced under the Panchayat Raj Act. However saying that, it begs the question as to why similar action is not taken on other erring panchas in Panchayats under Salcete BDO-II? For instance numerous complaints were made (in recent and past Colva Panchayat terms) by NGOs, activists on illegalities at Colva village and quite a few were found to be true post inspections by relevant authorities. In fact panchas and ex-panchas were even found to be directly involved in illegal constructions by the courts and some continue as panchas even today. I look forward to similar action on current and possibly even ex-panchas in other Goa panchayats including Salcete panchayats by the BDO.
