Kudos to the Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) for exposing the unhygienic conditions at many street food stalls (gaddas). Their recent action has rightly drawn attention to this public health problem.
It is worrying that several of these gaddas operate without the required NOC, raising serious safety and hygiene concerns. The Margao Municipal Council (MMC) has ignored these illegal stalls for far too long. One wonders if political support is protecting them from action.
The MMC must now act firmly to remove this unhygienic menace and put public health first. The FDA should also continue its checks and make sure food safety rules are followed.
