The unexpected news of a well planned attempt to gain control by the powerful Adani group of one of the nation's well known New Delhi Television Ltd is a blow out of the blue and have surprised and shocked many of the lakhs of its regular viewers in India and abroad.
Adani Group has already managed to acquire 29.1% stake by means of an indirect and complex strategy. Besides they also plan to acquire another 26% directly from the open market so that they will have over 50%, and gain majority stake to control NDTV Ltd.
NDTV founded by Prannoy Roy and his wife Radhika Roy who still hold 32.26%, is undoubtedly one of the most popular and respected news channel for its impartial and unbiased news coverage, discussions and debates. NDTV said that the acquisition is "Hostile".
Now the question before the viewers of NDTV 24x7, whether their favourite news channel will continue to operate independently in the same manner as before or will it be influenced by the powerful political forces that are trying to gain direct or indirect control of the print and TV media.
