The monsoon session of the Goa Assembly began on Monday with heated discussions. The Leader of the Opposition raised issues about coal handling in Vasco and mentioned a scam worth Rs 3,000 to Rs 4,000 crore. The matter of increasing coal handling was also discussed. Questions were raised about illegal houses and demolition notices sent to people who have been living in their homes for over thirty years. The government announced a rise in wages for daily wage workers and said that those who have worked for seven years will be kept on a temporary basis. Various other land-related issues in Goa were also raised. An MLA from North Goa requested the renovation and beautification of Chapora Fort. The session will continue until the first week of August, and more questions are likely to be raised, which the government will have to answer.
