With regards to the news item, “Just three MLAs turn up for Liberation Day function at South Collectorate” (The Goan Everyday, December 20, 2021), a few observations are worth sharing. Goa is going to the polls and preparations are on full swing. These elected representatives are the main protagonists of this riveting saga called Goa Assembly Elections 2022. Moreover, these MLAs (both incumbent and former) are very much in demand. Wherever they go they receive a hero’s welcome. People of Goa shower love on them. They have done a lot of development for you-know-who.
They are liked not only by the parties they belong to but also by the rival parties that would like to have them in their folds. These MLAs are busier than we, the common men and women of Goa, can imagine. Goa Liberation Day comes every year. But elections come once in five years.
Naturally, these MLAs must prepare and rehearse their lines before choosing the path that leads to the development. Right now they are busy plotting, planning, strategising and executing their desire for unparalleled development. Please let us not disturb them by raising a silly question, “Where are the MLAs?”.
