No doubt industrial development has been a boon to the Earth, but it has also been a bane altering the composition of not only the oceans, but also the quality of water in rivers, lakes, ponds and rivulets. Since 1980, when industrial activities began to pick up momentum all around the world, discharge of effluents, including synthetic chemicals and substances, has been the order of the day. The toxins in the oceans have poisoned marine life thus indirectly affecting human beings who consume fish.
