A study done by the Delhi-based NGO in associate with NIO finding out microplastic contamination in samples of tap water in Panaji and other areas highlights the disastrous monster act and it is an violation of human rights. The water supplied to the residents is contaminated with mud and it was reported to the PWD through my grievance five months back. When health concerns are mounting and diseases are taking toll, consuming contaminated water could have disastrous consequences. Moreover, this study cannot be negated because no tests are being done to check microplastics. And we are paying the water bills for this supply of contaminated tap water is very unfortunate. Fresh water, in sum, is in the worst condition in India’s history, according to the NITI report. Microplastic is in pellet, fragment, fiber, film, and foam forms and nano plastic is less than 1μm. The traditional approach to water quality monitoring is slow, tedious, expensive and prone to human error; it only allows for the testing of a limited number of samples owing to a lack of infrastructure and resources. There is a huge need to come up with innovative techniques for water purification that are affordable for masses at the ground level as water contamination is a major issue.
