Time to retrospect on parking woes in Mapusa

Mapusa has expanded commercially since liberation of Goa but vehicle parking chaos is still existing like the past. The area of taxi stand and Kadamba bus stand are falling short of sizes due to increasing traffic. The Master Plan for Mapusa has been stuck in papers only.

Parking area in government building near the market which has been reserved for officials is occupied by public who visit the Mapusa market for their purchases. The people who visit the government offices for their work are unable to get parking space thus causing inconvenience to them.

Actually, years back government had acquired a huge land at the southern side of Mapusa government building for parking facility. Despite facing major traffic congestion, till today the government has not expanded the required parking area.

It is very ridiculous to note that the development of Mapusa is so lethargic and ignored. People are ready to pay parking fees but government should provide parking amenity.

As far as government complex parking premises is concerned, a home guard should be deployed at the entry gate to enquire the visit of the general public. Only official visitors be allowed in the parking premises. And “parking for official visitors only” displaying notice board be erected at the gate. This could be a temporary remedy to give relief for the public who visit government building for their official works.
