Felicitate the brave lifeguards

Five fishermen were reportedly rescued from drowning by Drishti lifeguards at Anjuna and Arambol beaches on Wednesday. In one of the cases the fishing boat with four fishermen on board went completely out of service. In another case a local fisherman had a fall in a boat which was a kilometer off the shore off Arambol. It must be said that there has been an increase in the number of boats that have capsized in the past few days. The rough sea conditions could be the reason for boats capsizing. It must be said that the fishermen suffer a huge loss when their boat capsizes. Proper inspection needs to be carried out to see whether the boats are sea worthy. The government needs to give financial aid to those fishermen who have lost their boats. There needs to be a tracking system in place in order to be able to connect and track every canoe or trawler venturing into the sea. It is pertinent to note that not a single fisherman lost his life due to drowning in the recent incidents of boats capsizing. The Drishti lifeguards have been rendering yeomen service in saving the lives of fishermen in distress. Though they get paid for the job, it must be said that they put their own lives at risk. Hence every lifeguard who takes part in a rescue operation needs to be felicitated by the respective civic body/ panchayat.
