On December 18, the SC declared that Covid-19 was spreading like wildfire across the country due to lack of implementation of national guidelines and SOPs. Terming it as a world war against Covid-19, the Apex court said everybody around the world was suffering in one way or the other. Further, healthcare workers were physically and mentally exhausted and a mechanism to grant intermittent rest was needed. And finally, the Apex Court stated, “It is the time to rise to the occasion. Safety and health of the citizens must be the first priority.” Each and every citizen must ponder over their contributions to keep Covid-19 away. However, in Goa tourists violate SOPs with impunity and the authorities do nothing. The government did nothing to test people coming from States suffering that were hit by the second and third waves. Instead, the government opened tourism for all with no SOP implementation thus putting the lives of its citizens at risk. While we were in the grip of Covid-19, the government had the audacity to announce the year-long Liberation day celebrations. We have not been liberated from Covid-19. This extravaganza could wait. Now the government is pushing for holding IFFI. There is a singular lack of maturity exhibited by all. Let better sense prevail.
