Should there be any celebrations on the 60th anniversary of Goa Liberation or what are we celebrating exactly? From being a Portuguese colony Goa has become a Delhi Colony. Has Liberation improved the livelihood of Goans or has it only enhanced the assets of the political class? After Liberation, Goans have been voting but the reality is that every five years they get to choose people who make their lives miserable for next five years. The government they get is not the one they voted for. The state of Liberated Goa can be gauged by what the Lokayukta Justice P K Misra had to say. He is on record saying that the state should abolish the institution of Lokayukta. The State did not act on even one of the suggestions made by him. On the expiry of the Lokayukta’s term, his security was withdrawn a day earlier and he was not even given a send-off. The State is being led by individuals with petty minds and no vision. The Lokayukta said only God can save Goa. How do you tell the truth to people so willing to lie to themselves?
