The change from Trump to Biden in the US holds great significance for India as a sizeable electorate in this country admires Trump. There are parallels between the two countries. There is a Trump-like aura that is palpable in this country. We, the citizens, must ensure that Parliament functions in a democratic manner. There must be discussions and debates before a bill is passed. The prolonged farmers' agitation and actions resulting thereof are purely a result of undemocratic behavior by a majority government which brings back memories of our foreign rulers. Shashi Tharoor, who, I understand, is booked along with senior prominent journalists for sedition sums up the current situation so well: "We have freedom of speech but not freedom after the speech. Where is freedom of the press to report freely and without fear what is seen and heard? Stand-up comedians are behind bars for what they intend to say, and not even given bail. It broke my heart to have witnessed the migrant labour and Dalit travails, millions of loss of jobs, and the controversial High Court POCSO rulings.
