I supportthe view of the farmers that monkeys should be declared as vermin. They eatbananas, papayas, chickoos, mangoes, guavas, almost all fruits and they eatthem raw. Leave aside fruits, they even eat the tender shoots of plants likepapaya and don't allow them to grow.
Earlier, ourvillage people used to grow vegetables such as cucumber, snake gourd, ridgegourd, drumstick, beans and leafy vegetables. They have given up growingvegetables and fruits because of monkeys.
Monkeys alsobreak the roof tiles of our houses. In monsoons, this is a big problem sinceyou don't find anyone to go up on the slippery roofs to replace the tiles andstop leakages. Monkeys are indeed a menace to the people. They should bedeclared as vermin and suitable steps taken to keep them happy in the forestwhich is their abode.
