The Tokyo Olympics 2020 will get underway on July 23 in the backdrop of the fear of spread of the Delta variant and Delta Plus variant of the novel Coronavirus. It is understood that the organizers of the Tokyo Olympics have unveiled tough new rules for spectators at the games being held during the pandemic. This includes no use of alcohol, no hugs, no cheers and no autographs and that the festivities need to be suppressed. Only 10,000 spectators will be allowed into competition venues. It could be very difficult for the organizers to keep a check on the people coming to the game cities from different countries. It is observed that at the ongoing Euro 2020, the stadiums at several venues were filled with football fans with all pandemic protocols thrown to the winds. The Delta Plus variant is reportedly found in nine countries, including India. These countries include the United States, the United Kingdom, Portugal, Switzerland, Japan, Poland, Nepal, China and Russia. Hopefully the Olympic Games will go through without a spike in cases of the Coronavirus.
