Empathy cannot be artificial

Shashi Tharoor article in a national weekly recently was ominous and solemn as it was amazing.  However efficient and effective artificial intelligence may be in  the modern world,  the day robots replace drivers, tree climbers or mahouts -- among others fills me with unease.  Mobile phones, in particular, quietly erode a young persons intellect, often without his or her realising it. People in their 20s must remember that life existed long before social media,  WhatsApp or televisions made their dramatic entry. As Tharoor rightly points out with precision that AI has no place in understanding thoughts, feelings, emotions or empathy.  Can it sing like Mohammed Rafi, Lata Mangeshkar?   or can it  play cricket like Gary Sobers, Sachin Tendulkar?  Can it give the world another Gandhi?  Are we ready to accept that the artificial intelligence is more honourable than the achievements of great Indian minds?
