It is my sincere appeal to the Government of Goa not to let themselves be cowed down by the threats of the taxi mafia, who want to shut down Goa Miles. Any law and order situation to further this agenda has to be dealt with very seriously. All across India, cab services like Uber, Ola and many others are providing both convenient and cost-effective service to the public. Have the states running these operators sought approval from the local taxi operators before starting the service? It is a mischievous effort by these individuals and stakeholders in the business to protect their monopoly of “fleecing” the public. It is shameful that some politicians are backing this demand. While we hear of vote-bank appeasement, surely all of us who are affected outnumber the handful of taxi operators and should send a message to these politicians at election time. Tourists visiting Goa have the convenience of app-based taxis in their home states and are horrified at the exorbitant fares charged by these operators in Goa. Surely this is another nail in the coffin of the tourism industry.
