Fasting, respect for every religion must for peace

This is with reference to the report, "Iftar party brings fierce political rivals to the table in Margao - The Goan Everyday April 19, 2023." Iftar -- a time for sharing, for bonding with one another, yes all classes of people, politicians, etc. It was interesting to see politicians from rival parties coming together for an iftar party. The caption of the picture was apt - 'from fists of fury to feasting'. It was good to see the politicians bonding, In fact, we should take a cue from them and, leaving aside our differences of community, religion, culture whatever, should come together in a spirit of bonding. It would do a world of good to all. The Governor, PS Sreedharan Pillai's message at the iftar party should set us thinking. “The message of fasting is to do self-introspection whether we strictly conduct our lives as per the tenets and commitment to God.” Fasting not only from food but from hatred, violence, jealousy, greed, selfishness the list could go on……and, respect for every religion would certainly go a long way in maintaining peace and harmony in our country.
