Fix Porvorim flyover issues

The issues surrounding the Porvorim flyover deserve urgent attention. The project was inaugurated with high public expectations, but the concerns that have emerged regarding traffic movement, access points and safety indicate that corrective measures should be taken without delay.

It is also important to have clarity on the decision-making process. As the MLA representing Porvorim and a member of the government, Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte has publicly stated that he was not consulted on certain aspects of the flyover. This has raised questions about coordination among the authorities involved in planning and implementing the project.

The PWD Minister, the Chief Minister, the Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, and MLA Rohan Khaunte should convene a special meeting to address the flyover’s operational and safety concerns. The project should serve the people of Porvorim, who have experienced considerable inconvenience during its construction and after its opening. More broadly, major flyover and highway projects across Goa should be periodically reviewed through proper technical studies and traffic assessments to ensure safety, efficient traffic flow and public confidence. Transparent communication and timely corrective action will help ensure that public infrastructure meets the standards citizens expect.
