Covid-19 is a new infection. Doctors have not studied the same in medicine and as such they cannot rely solely on their training to tackle the same. Did they learn to maintain the flow rate of oxygen at 60 litres per minute? Have they used this oxygen therapy in any single case in Goa? A 49-year-old patient with comorbidity was admitted on August 19 and died on September 7. Is this acceptable? The GMC is now reporting that patients die of bilateral pneumonia and acute respiratory distress syndrome. On May 27, 2020, WHO came out with a guide: Clinical Management of Covid-19. It clearly stated how to handle different category of people. Are we to believe that patients with comorbidity come one week after severe pneumonia? Even here there is a treatment regimen: are we following it? Then there is critical disease with septic shock or sepsis. WHO specifies treatment for each case. There is no excuse: send the empaneled doctors and GMC Dean to Singapore for training or get help from WHO. Any which way you look at it, we need help from outside Goa.
