The Goa government has hurriedly demolished the infamous Curlies shack at Anjuna to gain some political mileage under the guise of complying with the recent verdict of the National Green Tribunal (NGT) upholding Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority's (GCZMA) six-year-old order.
Hey, didn't the state government know that the Curlies shack had come up illegally and was promoting all types of drugs-related activities in its premises? Then why was the government refusing to take any action against the same shack all these years and why it has suddenly woken up only after the mysterious death of BJP leader Sonali Phogat from Haryana at the premises of the said shack in Goa?
And what about the other notorious shacks which have come up right across the Anjuna beach defying CRZ guidelines and which are also wooing/entertaining domestic tourists by promoting all types of alcohol/ drugs/prostitution related illegal activities in Goa? When will the government take a similar type of quick action and demolish these illegal structures as well due to CRZ violations in Goa? Hey, if the Pramod Sawant led BJP government is really serious in making Goa a drugs-free state then instead of selectively trying to demolish one or two shacks from the coastal belts for CRZ violations to excite Goans, it should launch an all-out war at the state level against all the big drug lords/dealers/suppliers, owners of all the famous discotheques, pubs, restaurants, shacks, etc who are involved in the drugs trade, should get them immediately arrested and made to permanently rot in prison.
