Govt should manage potable water prudently

Since most parts of Goa have received 95 inches of rainfall which is equivalent to about 90% of rainfall received last year and since most of the dams and reservoirs of potable water are almost full, the concerned authorities should manage the distribution of potable water from these sources and reservoirs in such a manner that water is available to the consumers till middle of June next year even if we do not receive more rainfall this year. Since water is released for only 4 hours per day  across most of Goa it should be enough for distribution even after consideration of evaporation losses. Measures should be put in place so that losses due to leakage and pilferage do not occur by conducting inspections also along the length of the pipelines right from the source till the place of usage, specially since Goa is also in the grip of climate change as also observed in the rest of the country, unusual pattern of monsoon could be a distinct possibility this year thus leading to erratic rain.
