Hathras gang rape: There is no fear of law

Hathras gang rape: There is no fear of law

The Nirbhaya gang rape in Delhi a few years ago had shocked the nation not so much because of the rape, but because of the brutality leading to the death of the victim. This prompted the authorities to enact a strict law. However, seeing from the several rapes and gang rapes, which continue to happen, it is clear that there is no fear of the law. What is shocking is that the victims are also tortured and crippled or done to death after the rape. The latest case is the Hathras gang rape resulting in the death of the victim. To add insult to injury, the family of the victim was locked up for protesting and the body was cremated by the cops without giving the family a chance to pay its last respects and arrange a dignified cremation. We have to hang our heads in shame. Coming to the crucial point of fear of the law, there is a crying need for the strictest law and speedy justice delivery system. We cannot allow such rapes and brutality to continue. The present system which takes years for conviction and still more years for punishment doesn't help the cause at all.
