There have been several foreign players who have played in different editions of the Hero Indian Super League (ISL) over the years. These players have played in various positions on the playfield. But there has hardly been a foreign goalkeeper who has played for a franchise in the ISL. This is so because Indian goalkeepers have given a very good account of themselves in the premier league. The performance of the goalkeepers in the ongoing edition of the ISL has been of world standard. The top Indian goalkeepers who have been extremely consistent so far and have contributed immensely towards their team’s performance include Amrinder who is the captain of Mumbai City FC, Arindam of ATK Mohun Bagan, Rehenesh of Jamshedpur, Gurmeet of North East United, Gurupreet of Bengaluru FC. Other goalkeepers who have put up a fantastic show include Subrata Paul of Hyderabad FC, Debjit of SC East Bengal and Mohammad Nawaz of FC Goa. As a matter of fact FC Goa’s second choice goalkeeper Naveen Kumar won the player of the match award in the first game he played for FC Goa against Jamshedpur FC. Albino Gomes from Goa playing for Kerala Blasters has stood like a rock in the goal and has so far saved three penalty shots. Indeed Indian goalkeepers are comparable to the best in the world.
