It is understood that the organizers of Indian Super League (ISL) will set up their own Covid-19 testing laboratory in Goa for players, officials, broadcast team and all those associated with the five-month long football tournament starting November 21.
This is a step in the right direction as it will ensure that there will be no extra burden on the medical facilities in the State which is already under strain.
ISL will be the biggest event to take place in the country during the pandemic and will see ten teams and nearly 1000 people associated with the league.
It will probably be necessary to do the tests of the players and the officials before and after every match. The question that arises is whether the players and officials will be confined to the hotels for the duration of the tournament.
It may not possible to stay in the hotel for long periods of time without leaving the premises even if they have to change hotels during the five months stay.
Will the families of the players and others associated with organizing the tournament be allowed to accompany the teams? In all certainty the matches will be played to empty stadium and football fans will have to watch them on the television sets.
One can only hope and pray that the Covid-19 curve flattens by November.
