Jamtara is a village in Jharkhand infamous for its illegal call centres duping international citizens. There is also a web series on Netflix based on their nefarious activities. The scene seems to have shifted to Goa now which has achieved the dubious distinction of being ground zero for fake call centres with two being detected recently in Majorda and Ribandar.
The cyber criminals working there illegally procured personal details of US citizens through an app, they used laptops to contact the victim via virtual private networks and with the help of IVR posed as loan officers of US banks to offer them credit. Using another tactic they cheated foreigners on the pretext of approving their mortgage, medical bill advances, etc. Goa has become a happy hunting ground, err haven of all sorts of malefactors, thanks to the inefficiency of the law enforcement authorities here. Bravo, another feather in Goa's already crowded cap.
