Come Christmas and New Year, Goa is full of visitors from other States and countries to partake in the celebrations. For last two years the New Year was not welcomed in great pomp as there were Covid restrictions.
This year too, the situation is not that conducive due to new variant of the virus “ Omnicorn -- but Goa has to be on guard and follow strict Covid-19 protocols as lakhs of tourists have headed to the State.
The State is witnessing traffic that is threatening to go out of control with serpentine queues being witnessed not only along the coastal belt but also the cities and villages.
The government has imposed restrictions in theatres, restaurants and hotels with 50% capacity but in reality it is not possible due to monitoring mechanism. It is anyone’s guess if a businessman will not want customers.
RT-PCR test is made mandatory and so also Covid negative certificate for arrivals at the airport. However, it is observed that there is laxity on the part of officials who tend to take it easy.
It would be in the fitness of things if the people themselves take up the challenge to fight this menace by adhering to the Covid protocols and SOPs.
The State has already reported a big rise in the number cases in the last 2 days. Hope better sense prevails lest we end up like that of the second wave that was disastrous.
