Media’s new low: Turning news into a reality show

This is another media low as news channels race to the bottom, mixing TRPs with blind loyalty: "Fact check" is being used as a tag to justify bias and amplify disinformation. An English TV news channel selectively picks random social media posts to shoot them down with long commentary on propaganda while staying silent on bigger headlines that urgently need verification.

"False" is not as important in combating fake news as "unverified", because that has a ring of measured objectivity. Fact checks need to be presented in a sober way, otherwise they are not a solution but a part of the problem.

Consider the following:

NDTV just launched a spaceship from Chandni Chowk.

ABP News is negotiating world peace and Trump has praised Modi.

AajTak has destroyed Karachi Port.

Zee Media has destroyed Islamabad.

Republic TV has arrested Asim Munir.

Sudarshan has destroyed Pakistan and made it Gaza.

Cross-border firing and the subsequent skirmishes have become a reality show now. People are sharing war news like an achievement; it’s a massive disaster if you speak to people living around the borders. One imbecile has even shared Sindoor as an achievement a few hours after 15 civilians died in Poonch!! Shameful media, what times are we living in?
