Pope Leo clearly understands what is in store for him. Yes, it is both, a cross and a blessing. It is heartening to note that he would follow in the footsteps of Pope Francis, with a commitment to social justice at the core of his papacy.
Yes, the papacy is going to be a challenge at a time when the world is torn apart by war, disturbances and the Church is under persecution in our country and several parts of the world. Pope Leo's connection with our country seems to be deep, having visited India twice earlier.
Let's hope his election to the papacy brings peace to our troubled nation where minorities are under persecution. More than anything, Pope Leo needs our prayers. May God give him the strength to carry out his mission.
