The decision to implement the new Motor Vehicle Act 2019 is welcome but before that the government should not cross its limits by increasing the fines so high which can go upto Rs 25,000. Most of our countrymen's earnings are meagre and their existence is hand to mouth. We can understand that penalising those who break the rules and regulations is the need of the hour to avoid accidents. The fine for not wearing a helmet while riding is Rs 100. This can go up to Rs 300 to Rs 500 and not above this. People in our country are careless about road safety, rules and regulations because the penalty amounts are so low. On the other side, it is also necessary that the government improves road infrastructure. The PWD road divisions in all states should paint signboards and remove the ones that are corroded. Road curves and junctions should be maintained. The water pipelines running underground in the middle of the road should be shifted to the side. The traffic system in our country should change and it is the duty of the government to see that all the departments work together in the interest of the public.
