Those who saved Goa's identity are forgotten

Goa Assembly complex is the proud identity of Goa, but sadly it has no place for the man who struggled to keep Goas from merging with Maharashtra and save its unique identity for posterity. It is a shame and disgrace that those who enjoy the fruits of a separate State have developed a disdain for those who worked for a separate State. On the anniversary of the Opinion Poll Day, the government was duty-bound to remember those who worked to save Goa for Goans. But sadly those individuals and their names are confined to the dustbin of history. The government has denied them their rightful place in the history of Goa. But thanks to the tiatrists and the tiatr academy for keeping the memory of the Opinion Poll alive. We must also remember those who worked to get Konkani as the State language. It is a tragedy that here too some of the so-called stalwarts of Konkani managed to foist Devangri and keep Romi script away.

MV Act fines should be within affordable limits

The decision to implement the new Motor Vehicle Act 2019 is welcome but before that the government should not cross its limits by increasing the fines so high which can go upto Rs 25,000. Most of our countrymen's earnings are meagre and their existence is hand to mouth. We can understand that penalising those who break the rules and regulations is the need of the hour to avoid accidents. The fine for not wearing a helmet while riding is Rs 100.
