The fraudsters are verifying the social media platforms and collecting the mobile numbers, mail IDs who are having a good reputation in the society. Once the fraudster goes through the content of the compromised mail IDs, they send emails to the persons who are in the friend's list of the compromised mail ID. With digital transactions rising and online banking becoming more popular, cases of cyber frauds have also increased. Many bogus sites with poor credibility have cropped up to take advantage of people who use digital platforms for shopping. There is a greater dependence on digital payment and reduced cash handling. Data sharing is happening online and presence on social media has also increased. The adoption of e-commerce and digital financial services has seen accelerated growth in the country but the concurrent rise in cyber frauds necessitates multi-level awareness. The government agencies should issue frequent advisories and expose cyber fraudsters on a regular basis.
