This is with reference to the news items 'Govt mulls 'swap' in major push for electric bikes (The Goan Everyday, February 12, 2021). This is one of the best decisions taken by the government. There is no doubt that the environment around us is deteriorating. Whether we accept or not, pollution levels are rising in many cities across the country and in the world at large. Global warming is a reality and the recent tragedy in Uttarakhand is yet another pointer in that direction. The sooner we wake up to this reality, the better will it be. And so, the Goa government seems to be moving in the right direction by pushing for electric bikes. Their proposal for swapping existing petrol-run bikes with electric bikes is noteworthy. In fact, this should be extended to all petrol-run vehicles. Electric vehicles are now the need of the hour, they are the future. In fact, all state governments should take a stand and prepare the way for electric vehicles with the governments themselves leading the way. It's time to go green now, rather than go green with envy later! Actually, the future of human life itself is at stake.
