It is said that a job well begun is half done. That is exactly what some of the first-time elected representatives have been doing. These first-time MLAs have commenced serving the people of their constituencies with missionary zeal. Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar has assured the affected people that no houses would be damaged during the ongoing railway double-tracking work at Uddi in Belabai area of Vasco. He has also assured the people that they will also get a widened internal road and footpath with gutters in return from the railway authorities. In order to prevent flooding of the road along the Swatantra Path, Salkar has also assured that the work of new cross drains will be taken up. The Vasco MLA has also suggested shifting of the Vasco fire station to Dabolim before the onset of monsoons as work on the new fire station is in progress. The Aldona MLA Carlos Ferreira who also is a first-time elected representative is on a mission to clear the weeds in River Tar before the onset of monsoon. Poisonous weeds have invaded the River Tar in Mapusa and beyond. Another first-time MLA of St Andre Viresh Borkar has promised that the khazan fields in his constituency, which are inundated with saline water, will be rendered cultivable. He has also assured to seek a probe into the incomplete bridge at Dongorim-Mandur. These new MLAs are giving the seasoned politicians a run for their money. Hopefully, this enthusiasm will be spread to other elected representatives during the next five years.
