Olivia has inspired millions to undergo breast screening

The world was saddened by the passing away this Monday of Olivia-Newton John. All will remember her for her country singing and acting. But the true legacy she leaves behind is the breast cancer awareness she created in millions and the funding of the Olivia-Newton John cancer Wellness and Research Centre in Melbourne. Diagnosed in 1992 with breast cancer with  metastases  at the age of 44, she was in remission till 2013 when it returned and again in 2017. She survived 3 decades with the disease. Today, breast cancer when detected in early stage is curable giving at least 20-25 years remission free life. Many organisations in Goa work in breast cancer screening: money however must not be a criterion. They must resort to proper funding. Musicians in Goa can pitch in by singing the ONJ hits at their gigs with a message for regular screening. Proceeds can be sent to Caritas. The Ladli Lakshmi scheme must be modified with 50% down payment and the remaining at ages 25, 30, 35, 40, 45 on production of the breast screening tests.
