The internet gaming disorder (IGD) among children and adolescents has become a public concern. Minors are known to be particularly susceptible to problematic internet gaming use owing to age-related underdevelopment of cognitive control. Gaming can trigger feelings of irritability in some kids. It can also lead to power struggles, meltdowns, and sneaky behaviour. Today, these online games are easily accessible to children and are played on devices like computers, tablets and mobiles connected with the
internet. Children get hooked to these games very easily and then there is no stopping them. Playing online games with no restriction and no supervision leads to addiction and, eventually, the outcome is IGD. The gaming companies also emotionally compel the child to buy more games. The prolonged closure of schools due to the Covid-19 pandemic has increased the use of mobile and internet by children and ultimately online gaming addiction. Recently the Union Ministry for Education shared advisories for parents and teachers on online gaming and the threats it can pose towards children if they are not monitored.
