It is sad to see that day by day the number of huts in the Mapusa Municipal Council areas is on the rise. Instead of taking action against these illegal huts, the MMC has turned a blind eye to the problem. As a result, the outsiders’ mafia is thriving. These outsiders are involved in robberies and other crimes. They have become a nuisance and trouble for the police to keep a track of them. Looks like the city fathers and MLA Joshua D’Souza cannot see this menace near the bus stand and surrounding areas. For the local MLA, these outsiders are his new ‘bhumiputras’ and vote bank which help him to win elections. If we Goans are involved in building anything on our properties, the authorities seek an explanation and ask for licenses. Don’t understand why the Mapusa municipality, MLA D’Souza and Goa police are not able to find a permanent solution to this issue which is big trouble for the people of Mapusa. They are not feeling safe anymore. If we the people of Goa do not raise our voice then a day is not far when these outsiders’ mafia will take over our properties and rule our lives. The people of Mapusa have to wake up before it is too late to protect and save their town from becoming a leading crime zone in Goa.
