Phone tapping saga: A lost opportunity for Congress

With regards to the news report “Digambar, Michael’s phones being tapped, claims Girish” (The Goan Everyday March 04, 2022).

Goa Congress made a blunder by claiming publicly that the Goa BJP was tapping the phones of their leading lights ahead of the counting day that is just a week away. That too without furnishing any evidence to back the claim.

Goa Congress could have made the most of this opportunity by leading its arch rival up the garden path. The leaders with compromised phones could have had long conversation praising Modi-Shah and Sawant-Tanavade duos along with double engine government on their phones under scrutiny.

They could have roundly criticised their own party’s High Command and leadership. All for the sake of eavesdroppers who would have gone ga ga over this act of duplicity carried out with an intention of exposing the brain behind the phone tapping saga.

Goa BJP would have been in a tighter spot. Now all Goa BJP can do is smile and say that since Goa Congress is losing Goa Assembly Elections 2022 in a shameful manner, its regional satraps are fabricating all sorts of creative excuses to wash their hands of the responsibilities of the poor show across the polling booths.
