Firstly I must state my reservation that I have differences with Revolutionary Goans Party including vote splitting which helped quite a few BJP MLAs to power, e.g from Dabolim. Whether one agrees with the full framework of POGO or not, fact is something has to be done to safeguard Goans not being disfranchised in their own land; this has been done in many Indian states and even abroad where non locals are comfortable with measures taken, as it’s done in respectful manner by the locals. One plus point for RGP is at least they proposed something like the POGO bill, why can’t opposing Ministers/MLAs do something better instead of just criticizing or suggest suitable modifications if they see fit ?
If other states have passed legislations to take care of their people why are Goan ministers hesitating? It is a fact that Goa ranks as amongst the worst in India as far as unemployment goes ! Goan ministers proudly say they are promoting jobs for Goans but what’s the use if Goan definition they use do not properly define Goans? Are the ministers not fooling Goans with all their employment propaganda ? All things in process to diminish Goan identity like illegal slums/votebanks/defiling of democratic norms, environment destruction, massive loot of our resources etc are all “constitutional” whereas efforts to safeguard Goans are tagged as “unconstitutional” by selfish/corrupt and short sighted ruling Goan MLAs (and those supporting them for personal benefits).
