Preserving Goa’s charm: Address impact of unregulated tourism

Goa is known as a tourist destination on the world map. The state is blessed with greenery, natural resources such as seas, rivers, churches, temples, and masks. Above all, the religious harmony prevailing here is an example for the rest of the country. 

But nowadays, some unsatisfied souls try to shake this harmony for political interests. We, all Goans of all castes and religions, should understand their agenda and neglect them. We need not come under their influence.  

Presently, there are signs that tourism in Goa may face a setback. The reason is our greed. We are over-exploiting natural resources. Farmlands are being converted into mega housing projects. Hills are being destroyed. 

Due to the heavy number of shack beds/umbrellas, there are no pathways or roads to the seashores. Taxi owners, rent-a-bike operators, touts, and others loot tourists. They return home with bitter memories. Due to loud noises, peace and tranquillity, which tourists want to experience, are lost. As a result, there is a trend to ignore Goa as a tourist destination. Now is the time to think seriously about this problem and rectify it.

A case for banning roadside food stalls to boost quality tourism

The Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) has reportedly taken action against stalls selling biryani illegally in open and unhygienic areas in Calangute. Authorities have seized equipment from seven stalls. It is learnt that biryani was being sold without the permission of the FDA.
