Publicity needed for vehicle scrapping facility

On November 25, 2024 the Goa government had set-up a registered vehicle scrapping facility (RVSF) at Marcaim. This was not only to restrict pollution but also help people who wanted to dispose off their old vehicles. Reportedly, in the last four months only 43 vehicles were scrapped which works out to about 11 vehicles in a month! The RVSF scientifically scraps the vehicles, issues a certificate of deposit of vehicle and cancellation of registration is given to the vehicle owner. The certificate enables to get tax concessions, if any, for the owner. Importantly, the chassis and engine numbers cannot be misused. All these services are unavailable with unregistered scarp dealers.

Due to the low number of vehicles to be scrapped, the RVSF company is facing a loss and may have to shut down. To avoid this, the government and the company need to frequently advertise about the RVSF in the local newspapers and on FM radio. The government could write-off and handover to RVSF its more than 15 years old vehicles and not go in for auction. The owners of abandoned vehicles on the roadside could be traced and informed and notifications issued in newspapers. If there is no response within 15 days, the vehicles could be sent to the RVSF. Vehicles that were involved in accidents and if the cases are closed or if the vehicles are no ore required as evidence could be sent to the RVSF, after an approval from the police and the High Court. Hopefully, these measures could change the fortune for the RVSF and decrease pollution caused by old vehicles.

As it is mandatory for students to reach the exam centres on time, if they arrive late during the examination, they will not get enough time to answer, or they will not be permitted beyond a particular time. The closure of the Mandovi Bridge, which was planned, has been deferred until further…
